Hayden beckons.
A real backcountry ski day was long overdue.
That’s not to say that training days and races on the rando gear don’t count. It’s just that we really missed being out on a regular backcountry ski day, with the heavy packs, a normal lunch instead of race food, and a real ski objective.

The dominating summits of the Maroon Valley.
We skied Hayden last weekend in ideal conditions— eleven inches of new snow had fallen the day before, and it was sunny and cool with just enough clouds to keep things from getting hot. It was our first real summit ski tour of the season around Aspen, and it was a great way to start off what we’re hoping will be an exceptional spring ski season here.

Joey skis the upper face.

Psyched!

Christy, down through the Twin Gullies below the Stammberger.

The view through the telescope at the Sundeck the following day.
