2014 Hardrock 100

2014 Hardrock 100

Jul 18, 2014

Any finish at the Hardrock 100 should be considered a great achievement. There are so many ways to come up short on the burly course that anyone who makes it all the way back to Silverton deserves to be commended.

Hardrock 100 – One more time around

Hardrock 100 – One more time around

Jul 10, 2014

I like my number. “Dewalt Tough” is in regard to John Dewalt, a race veteran who recently passed away. It’s Hardrock 100 time again. It’s hard to believe, but this year will be my 7th go at this race. It doesn’t seem like it was that long ago that I was here for the first time. Back in 2007 I made my first trip around this incredible course. I returned...

San Juan Solstice

San Juan Solstice

Jun 25, 2014

When you look at the chart it’s probably not surprising that things started to change around Mile 23, near the top of the second big climb. You might think after a half a dozen times at the same race that things would get easier. Sure, it helps to have some familiarity with the course and to be clued in to what lies ahead, but even with that and years of...

Dirty 30

Dirty 30

Jun 5, 2014

The course was 33 miles or so this year, starting and finishing to the right on the map and loosely following the course in a counter-clockwise direction. It climbed more than 7,000 vertical feet before it was done. Click to enlarge. Another summer, another calendar full of running races. When we registered for the Golden Gate Dirty 30 back in February we knew it would be a long shot to...

Capitol Reef

Capitol Reef

Oct 31, 2013

We decided to check out Capitol Reef National Park last weekend. Like many people, we had long known of this National Park in south central Utah but had never spent any actual time there. One of its major attractions is the Waterpocket Fold, a 100 mile long exposed monocline

The Everest Marathon Series

The Everest Marathon Series

Oct 24, 2013

On May 29, 2003, the inaugural Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon took place. Nepali owned and organized, the race has been run every year on May 29th, the anniversary of Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary’s historic 1953 Mt. Everest ascent. The mostly downhill course descends the Khumbu Valley along popular trekking routes, from Everest Basecamp at 17,500 ft. to Namche Bazaar at 11,200 ft. In recent years, the race has...

Mahon vs. Bear

Mahon vs. Bear

Oct 4, 2013

Start with a 100 mile race in the mountains, strip out any crew support or pacers and add a bunch of winter weather– snow up high, mud down low, and temps in the low 20s all through the night– and you have last weekend’s Bear 100. Lucky for us, Christy and I were both able to say we had a great time. I improved on last year’s finish by 45...

Snowmass to Conundrum (and then some)

Snowmass to Conundrum (and then some)

Sep 12, 2013

Christy and I are both registered to run the Bear 100 in a few weeks, we thought it would be a good idea to do a long trail linkup from our Bear training playbook two years ago– Snowmass to Conundrum.

The Snowmass-Capitol-Daly Superloop

The Snowmass-Capitol-Daly Superloop

Aug 30, 2013

Descending from Capitol Pass towards Capitol Lake and Mount Daly. We went up around the backside of Mount Daly as it’s seen in this photo. We pulled off a fairly large adventure run around Snowmass, Capitol, and Daly last weekend, a linkup of trails we refer to as the Superloop. We frequent a good number of local trailrunning loops in the range of 18-26 miles, and we thought this longer...

Running Decalibron

Running Decalibron

Aug 23, 2013

Descending Mount Bross. Democrat, Cameron, Lincoln, and Bross– a.k.a. Decalibron, at least to those who obsess over 14ers here in Colorado. Peakbaggers love the easy Decalibron loop, allowing for four 14,000 foot summits to be tagged from the trailhead at Kite Lake, outside of Alma. (more…)

Purple Mound, 2622m, Lake Louise, BC 🇨🇦 We’ve skied named peaks, mounts and mountains, points, needles, ridges, and hills— and countless translations of these terms in other languages— but we had never skied from the summit of a named mound.

One thing remains consistent @tedmahon and #alwaysgo 🏃‍♀️❤️🙏 Back in the day, we had no idea what the Six Star Medal even was, but Chicago, Boston, NYC, Berlin, (and others) - seemed like cool places and courses to check out. Then throw in the discovery of trail running and ultramarathons, and it would take a little while to get back to New York again, London, and Tokyo. Feeling grateful for the opportunity to experience all six World Marathon Majors with so many friends and family along the way 💞So much support, laughter, challenges, and inspiration 🙏 And just what I needed right now, people from all over the world 🌍 coming together for one goal and to do their best, showing kindness, encouragement, and resilience at every step. 🙏🏃‍♀️⭐️✔️❤️ #SixStars #goals #WorldMarathonMajors #Grateful #runningcommunity @wmmajors #tokyo #London #NYC #Berlin #chicago #Boston #20thmarathon #25yearsinthemaking
