Sierre-Zinal, located in Switzerland’s Valais Alps, was one of the most incredible running experiences we have ever had in the mountains. It was such a special opportunity to run amongst the world’s elite running community on a spectacular course called the “La Course des Cinq 4000” – the “Race of the Five 4,000 meter peaks”.
We ran the 2014 Sierre Zinal 31k race in Switzerland and put together a somewhat shaky video from out on the course.
I like my number. “Dewalt Tough” is in regard to John Dewalt, a race veteran who recently passed away. It’s Hardrock 100 time again. It’s hard to believe, but this year will be my 7th go at this race. It doesn’t seem like it was that long ago that I was here for the first time. Back in 2007 I made my first trip around this incredible course. I returned...
When you look at the chart it’s probably not surprising that things started to change around Mile 23, near the top of the second big climb. You might think after a half a dozen times at the same race that things would get easier. Sure, it helps to have some familiarity with the course and to be clued in to what lies ahead, but even with that and years of...
The course was 33 miles or so this year, starting and finishing to the right on the map and loosely following the course in a counter-clockwise direction. It climbed more than 7,000 vertical feet before it was done. Click to enlarge. Another summer, another calendar full of running races. When we registered for the Golden Gate Dirty 30 back in February we knew it would be a long shot to...
Front runners at he start of the Dirty 30. Colleen and I started a bit further back. [Christy here] With pretty incredible spring snow conditions continuing in Colorado, it has actually been hard to wrap up the skiing. However, this past weekend we finally started to transition into summer, splitting our weekend 50 – 50 between running and the Centennials project. (more…)
Christy ran the inaugural Run Rabbit Run 100 miler in Steamboat last weekend. I crewed for her and had some thoughts on the race.
Thanks to the efforts of pacer/friend Chris Davenport, I ended up with some video footage from Hardrock earlier this summer. I have to confess, I wasn’t always in the mood to talk when he turned on the Contour HD camera during the late stages of the race, but when I finally got to looking at the footage recently, I was psyched he had brought it with him. The crew– Christy, Neal Beidleman and Chris Davenport. They deserve a lot of the credit for getting me here while it was still breakfast hour on Saturday in Silverton. Thanks guys, you’re awesome. In the days that follow this enormous undertaking, I’m usually so drained– mentally, physically, and emotionally– that I struggle to assimilate all that took place. I recall it in bits and pieces– mental images of the course,...
The course profile. Put another San Juan Solstice 50 in the books. It was Christy’s 4th finish here, and my 5th, and despite us both having a good amount of experience at this race, we’ve found that it is always a tough, unpredictable day. (more…)
