Water Holes Canyon

Water Holes Canyon

Nov 10, 2014

One of the many rappels in Water Holes Canyon Water Holes Canyon is a slot canyon just south of Page, Arizona. It empties into the Colorado River from the east, just below Glen Canyon Dam. Like Antelope Canyon, Water Holes is on Navajo land and requires permission to access. (more…)

Rinker Peak – 13,783 ft.

Jul 24, 2014

We wanted to go climb a mountain this past weekend, and we were unsure of where to go. We were looking for something that was tall, nearby, and was a summit we hadn’t yet climbed. It was actually kind of hard to find a mountain that fit that description.

Lake of the Clouds

Lake of the Clouds

Jul 6, 2014

On the descent from Spread Eagle Peak, looking south towards the heart of the Sangre de Cristos We left town for the holiday weekend and made our way down to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains for a little backpacking and peakbagging. The destination was a place known as Lake of the Clouds, and the goal was to climb two nearby 13ers, Cloud Peak and Spread Eagle Peak. (more…)

Waterpocket Fold & Muley Twist Canyon

Waterpocket Fold & Muley Twist Canyon

Nov 5, 2013

Looking north up the Waterpocket Fold in the morning. As you travel east (right) you pass through younger and younger rock strata. The Waterpocket Fold of Capitol Reef might be best described as a bend in the earth’s crust where subsequent erosion has exposed the underlying rock strata. Whereas the layers of desert rock are normally seen in a canyon wall stacked vertically, the layers of the Fold are tilted...

Capitol Reef

Capitol Reef

Oct 31, 2013

We decided to check out Capitol Reef National Park last weekend. Like many people, we had long known of this National Park in south central Utah but had never spent any actual time there. One of its major attractions is the Waterpocket Fold, a 100 mile long exposed monocline

Wildfire Aftermath

Wildfire Aftermath

Jul 26, 2013

The massive West Fork Complex wildfire that burned out of control for several weeks this summer has been contained, but not before consuming 110,000 acres of forest. It was never a threat to us here in Aspen thankfully, but for those living in the burn area (Creede/Pagosa Springs/South Fork) it was an extremely serious situation. (more…)

Peakbagging

Peakbagging

Aug 20, 2011

Approaching the cairn atop Organ. It’s not always about the challenge of the peak. We climbed Organ Mountain this past weekend, which at 13,801 feet, is the 106th tallest peak in Colorado. We chose Organ not because Christy and I are now setting out to climb all the top 200 Colorado summits (or Bicentennials), we were just looking for a new place to go, and to come up with ideas...

Len Shoemaker Ridge to Pyramid Traverse

Len Shoemaker Ridge to Pyramid Traverse

Aug 10, 2011

The massive ridge. With the start labeled, we first climbed south to Len Shoemaker Peak and then followed the ridge as it swung north, all the way to Pyramid. Click to enlarge. Totally psyched and somewhat surprised to have actually pulled it off, Neal Beidleman and I sat on Pyramid’s narrow summit in the afternoon sun and processed it all. It wasn’t that we thought it couldn’t be done. Through...

Weminuche Wilderness Weekend

Weminuche Wilderness Weekend

Sep 23, 2010

From the summit of Storm King Peak. It’s wild back here. Last weekend, Christy and I went down to the Weminuche, in the heart of the San Juans. It’s an incredible place, one of our favorite spots in the state. The Weminuche Wilderness handily takes the award as Colorado’s largest wilderness area. At nearly 500,000 acres in size (Maroon Bells/Snowmass is 181,000 acres by comparison) it is so vast, with...

Thank you Austria, for the memorable tour through Thank you Austria, for the memorable tour through your Silvretta Alps 🙏🇦🇹😊 snow, sun, schnapps, amazing people and huts, during a five-day ski adventure with @aspenchristy, which was just what we needed after a sub-par ski season back at home. ❄️⛷️👍

This region is worth a visit, the ski terrain is top-notch, the huts are great, and the Austrian hospitality brought it all together in a way that made for a special trip. And a ski day at @ischgl_com, complete with a proper aprés should be included as well! 🍻🕺🏻 #alps #skitour #silvretta @jamtalhuette @kastle_usa #forskiers @stio #lettheoutsidein

New adventures ahead — and this time, not in the m New adventures ahead — and this time, not in the mountains. 🏔️✨
Yesterday, I had the honor of being sworn in as a member of the Pitkin County Board of County Commissioners, representing District Two.

I’m truly grateful to have been appointed after an application process alongside eight other qualified applicants. Stepping into this role is both exciting and humbling, and I’m ready to dig in and help shape the future of the place we all call home.

Thank you to everyone who supported and encouraged me. I take this responsibility seriously and am committed to dedicating the time, energy, and thoughtfulness it deserves.

Because this appointment fills a vacated seat, I’ll be running in the November election to continue serving in this position. More to come soon — but if you’d like to support the campaign, drop a comment below and I’ll make sure you're on the list!

Grateful for this community. Grateful for this opportunity. 🙏 @pitcogov

After Lonquimay and Llaima, we managed to pull off a one-day ski of Lanin, followed by Villaricca, and then Quetrupillan.

That's five different volcanoes climbed and skied in about as many days. 👍

Thanks to @ngrstyle for showing us the way on Villaricca- what an awesome day with an amazing local guide- I highly recommend Rodrigo if you're in Chile and need one, or even if you don't but want some local flavor- you won't regret going out with him!

Now we're moving south from Pucón to Puerto Varas to check out Volcan Osorno and keep the adventure going! 🌋⛷️😁

Chile ski adventure 2025 🇨🇱 we had two great days Chile ski adventure 2025 🇨🇱 we had two great days on two volcanoes so far- Lonquimay and Llaima - the sun and corn snow we got one day ☀️was countered with frozen spring snow, whiteout, and high winds 💨 the likes of which we haven't experienced in a while, if ever at all at this level. Definitely the type of conditions that makes things memorable! 😆

Now we're in Pucon, enjoying a rainy day out of our ski boots, checking out all this amazing place has to offer.

Tomorrow we'll be back out in nicer weather on some more local volcanoes, looking forward to the continued adventure! 🌋⛷️😀👍
