Humboldt Peak Solo Ski Descent – 5.22.07

May 22, 2007

Crestone Needle in the morning light. Route: Southeast Face Team: Ted (solo) After Lindsey I headed to the South Colony Lakes 2wd trailhead and set up camp out of the truck. I was asleep by nine. In the dark I pushed up the road on the ATV, taking it until snow finally stopped me. I would ski down Humboldt’s long Southeast gully to near there so it was actually the...

Mount Lindsey Ski Descent – 5.21.07

May 21, 2007

On the summit, looking towards Blanca. Route: North Face Couloir Team: Ted (solo) Having parted with Dirk and Christy after Tabeguache, I made my way down to the southern Sangres. Little Bear needed a visit before the snow melted, I had the ATV in tow and figured I would give it a shot, solo. Down here though, the afternoon showers we just fled on Tab were full on storms. I...

Ellingwood Point Ski Descent – 5.16.04

Ellingwood Point Ski Descent – 5.16.04

May 16, 2004

The sun crests the saddle between Blanca and Ellingwood and warms the chill. Route: South Face Team: Christy, Ted After coming off our big push in the Sawatch the weekend prior, we wanted to check out the Sangres. There was enough snow down there still to ski, but it was going fast. We made the drive to towards Alamosa and then up the horrendous Como Lake Road to a reasonable...

Sometimes timing is everything… as we topped out Sometimes timing is everything… as we topped out on Tarija Peak 🏔️ we knew instantly how special it was to be there at that fleeting moment in time— as the sun crested the horizon 🌄with the low clouds over the Amazon rainforest to the east, and our summit objective, Pequeno Alpamayo framing the background. Any earlier or later, and it could have been missed.

It wasn’t our plan to be at that spot at that moment, it just worked out that way. Happy to see our friends at @stio thought it was worthy of a two-page spread in their recent “Deep Winter 2025” catalog! 🙏😁

What a journey - over a lot of years! One thing re What a journey - over a lot of years! One thing remains consistent @tedmahon and #alwaysgo 🏃‍♀️❤️🙏 Back in the day, we had no idea what the Six Star Medal even was, but Chicago, Boston, NYC, Berlin, (and others) - seemed like cool places and courses to check out. Then throw in the discovery of trail running and ultramarathons, and it would take a little while to get back to New York again, London, and Tokyo. Feeling grateful for the opportunity to experience all six World Marathon Majors with so many friends and family along the way 💞So much support, laughter, challenges, and inspiration 🙏 And just what I needed right now, people from all over the world 🌍 coming together for one goal and to do their best, showing kindness, encouragement, and resilience at every step. 🙏🏃‍♀️⭐️✔️❤️ #SixStars #goals #WorldMarathonMajors #Grateful #runningcommunity @wmmajors #tokyo #London #NYC #Berlin #chicago #Boston #20thmarathon #25yearsinthemaking

A rare sun ☀️ weather window in Hokkaido follo A rare sun ☀️ weather window in Hokkaido followed by a few days of traditional Japow ❄️allowed us to have such a unique trip for three summit loving, grateful pow skiers from Colorado! We were able to summit Mount Yotei, Iwaonupuri (NE Couloir), Shirebetsu, Weisshorn, and Shirakaba-yama. Some with blue skies and incredible views, some with amazing soft powder. Most were followed by traditional onsen experiences off the beaten path, and a nightly adventure sampling the local food in Kutchan. Managed a couple fun on piste days as well. Not your typical Japan weather but worked out perfect for us! We’ll be back! ⛷️☀️🇯🇵🌋🍲 🛖 ❄️#hokkiado #alwaysgo #japantan #japow #whatevertheweather #lettheputsidein #forskiers @stio @kastle_usa @tedmahon

As we enjoy the beauty of winter, it is not lost on us that the effects of climate will also have devastating consequences on our mountain communities.
