Route: Southeast Face to Angel Snowfield
Team: Christy, Ted, Dirk Bockelmann, Phillip Ring
This was a busy stretch. I skied Quandary with Scott Martin, then drove to South Colony Lakes and skinned into camp at the summer trailhead for the night. The next morning I skied the North Couloir on Crestone Peak with Frank and Josh from Crested Butte and then broke camp and headed to Salida for the night. I met Christy, Dirk, and Phillip at the Angel of Shavano Trailhead the following morning, and in mild storm conditions, we headed up.
It was a wet day. The clouds keep the air temp warm so the snow was also very sloppy. But it went from the summit, which on Shavano isn’t always a given, so weather aside, it was a great day.
It’s a straight forward route up the summer trail, and we skied pretty far down the Angel and made our way back to our up-track with a GPS. And to make it four in a row for me, we grabbed dinner in Buena Vista and then headed to the Huron Trailhead for the night.

Christy, on the way up. When there’s snow, you can skin all the way to the summit, it never gets too steep to as require hiking.

Dirk picks a line through the scree.

The Gang of Four– Phillip, Dirk, Christy, and me.

Ready to go.

Philip, near the top.

Dirk and Christy, down in the Angel.

It was a wet day start to finish. But that didn’t keep us from having fun.

There are some big old trees down at the base of the Angel.
