Deep in a valley south of Twin Lakes, CO lies Mount Blaurock, 13,616 ft. It’s an impressive summit, especially for skiing, with a wide northeast face that offers more than a half a dozen potential steep ski lines.

Snow has been falling steadily all season. The backcountry has been slowly filling in and we’ve been getting out on some of our favorite winter ski tours when we can.
Our annual Christmas Eve Hut Trip, now in its 9th year, was to Tagert Hut. Five of us made the trip up to celebrate the holiday and do a little skiing on Christmas morning.
The Tenmile Range is a region of the Colorado Rockies that contain the mountains surrounding Breckenridge and Frisco. These mountains frame the Blue River Valley and Lake Dillon and not only provide a scenic back drop for everything in the area, but contained within them is a cool ridge that allows for a huge linkup of summits.
I recently completed my 10th Hardrock 100, finishing in 29 hours and 26 minutes which was fast enough for 7th place. That comes to 1000 miles I’ve run on the ultra-marathon course in the San Juans.
