Just getting caught up here on the backlogged trips thus far- this was a great one we had on Sunday, April 26. Forgoing what was the 4th ‘official’ ski area closing day(after all the season extensions), a rather large group of us tested the limitations of modern snowmobiles and headed up the Maroon Creek Road to ski Willow Peak. John Doyle and Kirk sacrificed the machines to get Pierre and Andre Wille, Sean, Christy,...
This was nothing short of a spectacular day. Chris Davenport and I agreed that skiing Thunder Pyramid’s steep Southeast Face was one of our favorite steep lines in all of the Elk Mountains.
After the steep finish to the ridge the exposure stayed high. We gained this upper section at the saddle in the center of the photo, it’s a burly finish and a committing ski. Route: West Face Team: Ted, Al Beyer “I’m an architect, I like to think outside the box.” That was Al’s reasoning as to why we should try to ski Capitol Peak from the west, knowing that to...
Pondering the monster cairn. Route: Northwest Ridge Team: Christy, Ted, Jordan White, Frank Konsella, Brittany Walker There are some things that all players in the 14er game must eventually confront. Sooner or later, anyone serious about finishing them, in any season or style, must pay a visit to Culebra Peak (pun)— the peak that resides entirely on a private ranch. Often left until the end, the long drive, required reservation...
The south facing Edwardian Couloir on the 13er Mount Edwards make for a sweet backcountry ski in the Front Range mountains of Colorado.
An amazing outing to ski teh South Couloir on Crestone Peak.
Heading up the easy terrain to the West Ridge of Cronin Peak. Date: Feb. 9, 2008Team: Christy, TedRoute: East Face For high peaks in the Sawatch, the East Face couloirs of Cronin Peak are a worthy goal. We made the easy ski up the Baldwin Creek Jeep Road commonly used to access Antero, and the headed west into the basin where easy access to Cronin Peak’s West Ridge can be...
It had been two weeks since Christy and I had skied down in the San Juans and although we were wearing shorts in Aspen now, our friend in Telluride insisted we could still ski the classic Northeast Face of Wilson Peak.
Skiing the Hourglass Couloir on the 14er Little Bear Peak in 2007.
The line down the Southwest Face. Route: Southwest Couloir Team: Christy, Ted Excited by a prospect of a second new descent after the route we just completed on Sunlight, we transitioned back to uphill mode and began up Windom Peak. Climbing to the side of the Widowmaker, we were up top quick, with a big decision. The common ski line on Windom is the Widowmaker, to the northwest, which I...
