The start of the loop course. Photo courtesy of the Aspen Daily News Thanks to everyone involved for getting last nights ski mountaineering (skimo) race off successfully. Donning headlamps and the lightest touring gear they could find, about 30 people, a majority of whom were women, lined up for the 5:30pm start. It was the first of a series of four races to take place at Aspen Highlands this season,...
The poster says it all. See you at Neptune Mountaineering in Boulder next Thursday.
Christy and Dav make their way up Mount Baker’s Coleman-Deming route. Our 2011-12 ski season salvage operation has come to a close. Two weeks in Canada and a week in the Northwest helped make up for the somewhat lackluster winter we had in Aspen. Now it’s time for summer. There’s a small chance we’ll ski again here in Colorado, but for now, Christy and I figure Mount Baker was our...
Ski Mount Rainier in a day? Sure, just get an early start.
Sierra Slayer Glen Poulsen and friends joined the Volcano Tour for a couple of days, including this one on Mt. Hood’s Cooper Spur. What an incredible trip this has been. Since joining Chris Davenport and friends on the Spyder Volcano Tour last weekend we’ve skied Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams, and Mt. St. Helens. We’ve caught up with old friends, met loads of new ones, toured parts of the Northwest we’ve...
The Spyder Volcano Tour land yacht, our home for the next week. It’s a quick turnaround. Since returning from Canada earlier this week, Christy’s bags pretty much remained packed– with only the clothes that needed a visit to the laundry room having been pulled out and since put back clean. (more…)
Sean, Friendship Col, opens the second set here. Here are a few more from the week. (more…)
Bianca, from Quebec, charges down from Friendship Col. Everyone who ever told me that Fairy Meadow was a “must-do” was right. The place rocks. Joey, Sean, Brad Buyers, Christy, and I joined a group of 12 Canadians (including Greg Franson and Jesse Berg from our Bugs to Rogers Traverse last year) for a week up at the hut in the Adamant Mountains. We finally got a bit of the skiing...
It’s time for some spring adventures. We’re off to Canada again. The map and route of the Wapta Traverse. Sean and I are doing the Wapta Traverse, a hut-to-hut ski tour similar in style to Europe’s Haute Route. (more…)
On Easter Sunday, we skied a line off of a local unnamed summit that neither Christy nor I have been to before. Like a lot of 13ers in the state, this 13,500+ foot summit has never been given an official name.
