We skied Golden Horn, 13,780 ft. last weekend, down in the stunning Ice Lakes Basin area of the San Juans. The valley is a favorite of ours, in the summer months it’s all about the wildflowers, alpine lakes and scrambles on high 13ers.
We joined friends at the Lindley Hut last week and did a cool tour on and around nearby Star Peak. I’ve always considered April to be prime time for the Braun Huts…
We skied Dyer Mountain, 13,855 ft., for a third time, as part of the course of the Father Dyer Skimo Race in Leadville.
The 20th annual Elk Mountains Grand Traverse was this past weekend. It was the 15th time both Christy and I have completed this race, nine of which have been as a team.
Stacking tracks. It wasn’t much of a start, but this winter has sure developed into something nice. This past January has seen tons of snow so far, and while it’s early and things can change, the stability in the backcountry has been really good as well. (more…)
Anchoring the north end of the long, narrow Sangre de Cristo mountain range lies Cottonwood Peak, 13,588 ft. a bicentennial best accessed via a rough jeep road that climbs high into Cloverdale Basin by the Cloverdale Mine.
The Ruby Range Traverse is a ridge traverse from Yule Pass to Ruby Peak across the nine named summits of the Ruby Range above Kebler Pass near Crested Butte, Colorado.
In 2016 I finished Nolan’s 14 in 55:37 following the route north from Mt Shavano to Mt Massive, a near 100 mile course that climbs 14 14ers along the way.
