The snow hung around for a while in the late spring of 2023. So, I made a quick jaunt up La Plata Peak to ski the snowy shoulder that buried the summer hiking route.
It’s always fun to ski up high in late June. It’s not unusual for snow to linger high on north-facing routes on Colorado’s 13ers and 14ers.
Missouri Mountain, La Plata, Huron, Cronin, and Tabeguache are just a few of the high Sawatch summits that might be worth checking out next time we have a good snow year.
