Christy’s Homestretch

Christy’s Homestretch

May 29, 2010

Clicked in atop Capitol but not out of the woods yet. Click any pic to enlarge. So Christy pulled it off, she’s the first woman to ski the 54 Colorado 14ers. And what a finish it was, not simply due to the fact that her final peak was Capitol, considered by my many to be the most committing ski descent of all the 14ers, but in the various challenges that...

Skiing the Henry’s

Skiing the Henry’s

May 10, 2010

The Henry Mountains from the north as we drove past the Maze and Goblin Valley. Surrounded by canyon country in all directions, it feels kind of strange as you approach them with the goal of skiing in mind. “So then what are you guys doing in Utah?” asked our friend after running through the list of typical Utah desert activities, i.e. biking, climbing, boating and hiking. I interrupted and said,”We’re...

A Quickie on Mace Peak

Apr 25, 2010

Christy schusses the middle gully of Mace Peak’s North Face with late April powder. With plans to be away in the Utah desert for most of next week I thought I’d share some pics from a quick little tour Christy and did up in Ashcroft Sunday. A huge storm blew threw Colorado just before the weekend dumping some twenty inches of snow on the mountains and bringing us back into...

Lovely, no?

Lovely, no?

Apr 21, 2010

Uninspiring for skiing, it’s uninspiring for blogging too, as the skiing and scenery are just UGLY. You can follow the snirt line as it moves up the mountain day after day. This photo is actually from April 10th, by now it’s showing up on the high peaks in the background. Ross Kribbs photo, click to enlarge. Ross’s email appeared my inbox with the aforementioned title in the subject line. Attached...

Why Now Brown Pow?

Why Now Brown Pow?

Apr 12, 2010

Sean leaves his mark, with a slight brown tinge. Down low the dust is everywhere and soon it will be up here as well. Bummer. Just when we thought we finished a season without a dust layer, it arrived. Actually, we never really acknowledged the lack of dust. And how soon we forget. With somewhere north of six dust events around Aspen last season(it was pretty bad, read here), we...

The signs were pointing to an exceptionally busy Saturday at Highlands. So we decided to hit one of our favorite lines on Highlands Ridge and made it a “one and done” day.

Moderating the Moderate Rating

Moderating the Moderate Rating

Mar 11, 2010

A moderate pace up the moderate slope, as an avalanche instructor/forecaster, Josh knows better than to assume the moderate rating is as safe as it sounds. If you haven’t checked the CAIC website as of late, the current avalanche danger rating for the Aspen zone is moderate on all aspects and elevations. With five ratings on the avalanche danger scale– low, moderate, considerable, high and extreme– moderate is just a...

Lunch with Dirk

Feb 10, 2010

Adam Dennis drops into the “facet farm.” On the plus side– facets are pretty good for getting powder photos. On the plus side, everything we encountered on our lap off of Highlands Ridge was better than we expected. Of course in full disclosure we had all set the bar pretty low. Deeming it an important product research/ snow conditions survey, Dirk checked out of the Aspen Expeditions office on an...

San Luis Peak Ski Descent – 1.16.10

Jan 16, 2010

Christy makes her way across the rolling basin to the East Ridge. Route: Yawner Gullies (SW) Team: Ted, Christy We had come off Sneffels the weekend prior, and decided to head back down to the San Juans for a combo ice climbing trip/ San Luis Peak ski. After a couple of days in the Ouray Ice Park, we made our way to Creede for the night. It just so happened...

Thank you Austria, for the memorable tour through Thank you Austria, for the memorable tour through your Silvretta Alps 🙏🇦🇹😊 snow, sun, schnapps, amazing people and huts, during a five-day ski adventure with @aspenchristy, which was just what we needed after a sub-par ski season back at home. ❄️⛷️👍

This region is worth a visit, the ski terrain is top-notch, the huts are great, and the Austrian hospitality brought it all together in a way that made for a special trip. And a ski day at @ischgl_com, complete with a proper aprés should be included as well! 🍻🕺🏻 #alps #skitour #silvretta @jamtalhuette @kastle_usa #forskiers @stio #lettheoutsidein

We made it to the amazing Jamtal Hut despite pretty challenging conditions and couldn't be happier to be here! Stunning location, super-nice staff, great food- now if we could only get a little visibility... we'll see what the next few days deliver ❄️❄️❄️🙏#alwaysgo #silvretta #alps #huttrip ⛷️🏔️👍 @jamtalhuette @kastle_usa #forskiers @stio 😊

New adventures ahead — and this time, not in the m New adventures ahead — and this time, not in the mountains. 🏔️✨
Yesterday, I had the honor of being sworn in as a member of the Pitkin County Board of County Commissioners, representing District Two.

I’m truly grateful to have been appointed after an application process alongside eight other qualified applicants. Stepping into this role is both exciting and humbling, and I’m ready to dig in and help shape the future of the place we all call home.

Thank you to everyone who supported and encouraged me. I take this responsibility seriously and am committed to dedicating the time, energy, and thoughtfulness it deserves.

Because this appointment fills a vacated seat, I’ll be running in the November election to continue serving in this position. More to come soon — but if you’d like to support the campaign, drop a comment below and I’ll make sure you're on the list!

Grateful for this community. Grateful for this opportunity. 🙏 @pitcogov

After Lonquimay and Llaima, we managed to pull off a one-day ski of Lanin, followed by Villaricca, and then Quetrupillan.

That's five different volcanoes climbed and skied in about as many days. 👍

Thanks to @ngrstyle for showing us the way on Villaricca- what an awesome day with an amazing local guide- I highly recommend Rodrigo if you're in Chile and need one, or even if you don't but want some local flavor- you won't regret going out with him!

Now we're moving south from Pucón to Puerto Varas to check out Volcan Osorno and keep the adventure going! 🌋⛷️😁

Chile ski adventure 2025 🇨🇱 we had two great days Chile ski adventure 2025 🇨🇱 we had two great days on two volcanoes so far- Lonquimay and Llaima - the sun and corn snow we got one day ☀️was countered with frozen spring snow, whiteout, and high winds 💨 the likes of which we haven't experienced in a while, if ever at all at this level. Definitely the type of conditions that makes things memorable! 😆

Now we're in Pucon, enjoying a rainy day out of our ski boots, checking out all this amazing place has to offer.

Tomorrow we'll be back out in nicer weather on some more local volcanoes, looking forward to the continued adventure! 🌋⛷️😀👍
