Cronin Peak Ski Descent – 2.9.08

Cronin Peak Ski Descent – 2.9.08

Feb 9, 2008

Heading up the easy terrain to the West Ridge of Cronin Peak. Date: Feb. 9, 2008Team: Christy, TedRoute: East Face For high peaks in the Sawatch, the East Face couloirs of Cronin Peak are a worthy goal. We made the easy ski up the Baldwin Creek Jeep Road commonly used to access Antero, and the headed west into the basin where easy access to Cronin Peak’s West Ridge can be...

A trip report from a ski descent of the North Face of Tabeguache Peak.

Belford & Oxford Ski Descent – 4.7.07

Belford & Oxford Ski Descent – 4.7.07

Apr 7, 2007

Skiing Belford with the Oxford descent marked. Route: Northeast Face (Belford), Southwest Face (Oxford) Team: Ted, Christy, Lou & Louie Dawson, Jordan White The caller ID said Lou Dawson. The father and son duo were thinking about a trip to Belford and Oxford and offered up the invite. So Christy and I met them, along with Jordan White, at the Missouri Gulch TH the evening before. Aside from a single...

Mount Shavano Ski Descent – 4.4.07

Mount Shavano Ski Descent – 4.4.07

Apr 4, 2007

Seen from the truck- I followed the line up and the dots down. The “Angel” is in pretty good view. Route: Southeast Face to Angel Snowfield Team: Ted (solo) I camped in the back of the truck at the Angel Trailhead. Standard fare on a solo morning for me is struggling to get up and moving. I snoozed a good hour and a half away, oh well. It looked so...

Missouri Mountain Ski Descent – 6.5.05

Missouri Mountain Ski Descent – 6.5.05

Jun 5, 2005

With the ramp finished, a pole touch from the benchmark, we were ready. Route: North Face Team: Ted, Christy With the arrival of June, north facing snow was about all that was left. The view of Missouri’s north side from La Plata the week before showed it was still in from the top, or so it appeared. Christy and I were excited as we made the quick trip over Independence...

La Plata Peak North Face Ski – 5.30.05

May 30, 2005

A late May ski descent of the North Face of La Plata Peak.

Mount Princeton Ski Descent – 5.9.04

Mount Princeton Ski Descent – 5.9.04

May 9, 2004

The ski line and route (dots). It’s a straightforward one. Route: East Face Team: Christy, Ted Moving south from Columbia, Princeton would be next. I was unaware at the time how good the coverage was this spring in the Sawatch Range. Princeton, in particular, wouldn’t hold this much skiable snow for a few years. We figured it would be a good one because of the easy access on the Mt....

Mount Harvard Ski Descent – 5.8.04

Mount Harvard Ski Descent – 5.8.04

May 8, 2004

Route: South Face from Horn Fork Basin Pretty good timing for soft snow. Team: Ted, Christy Feeling motivated after a textbook spring ski of Mount Elbert, Christy and I headed to the North Cottonwood Creek trailhead, for Harvard and Columbia. In order to nail these two descents in one spring day we thought it best to make a high camp so we packed in all our stuff and set up...

West Face of Mount Columbia – 5.8.04

West Face of Mount Columbia – 5.8.04

May 8, 2004

The West Face of Columbia, seen from Harvard earlier that morning. Route: West Face Team: Ted, Christy The thought of not trying for Columbia right after Harvard, even if it was a bit warm and a bit late was not one Christy or I wanted to entertain. At this point in time I was barely halfway through the ski list and wasn’t set on skiing them all, but Christy would...

It’s disappointing to have the spring season trashed by airborne dust and dirt though. 👎 Experts say the continuing drought in the American West is all but ensuring this spring phenomenon will happen with increasing frequency— and even earlier in the season— in the years ahead. 👎 Let’s hope those forecasts are wrong. The spring backcountry season is already short enough. 📷 @aspenchristy
