We joined friends at the Lindley Hut last week and did a cool tour on and around nearby Star Peak. I’ve always considered April to be prime time for the Braun Huts…
The 20th annual Elk Mountains Grand Traverse was this past weekend. It was the 15th time both Christy and I have completed this race, nine of which have been as a team.
It wasn't much of a start, but this winter has sure developed into something nice. This past January has seen tons of snow so far, and while it's early and things can change, the stability in the backcountry has been really good as well. (more…)
The Ruby Range Traverse is a ridge traverse from Yule Pass to Ruby Peak across the nine named summits of the Ruby Range above Kebler Pass near Crested Butte, Colorado.
The season is definitely winding down. For most it was over weeks or even months ago. But we always like to keep things going until the very end, and besides, the conditions up high are really just coming into form in May. We may still get out for another day or two before truly stashing the ski gear away for summer, but I thought I should share some of the...
I recently joined two friends on a last minute trip to the Lindley Hut and we had two incredible days touring on and around the nearby peaks and couloirs. I thought I would share an assortment of photos and let them speak for the adventure.

Every time we visit here it's a great time. There's just so much terrain to see and ski, some of which is just too inaccessible without the sort of advanced base camp that a remote cabin...
We were hoping to get some miles in on a tour that didn’t feel too aggressive considering all the new snow that fell recently. So Sean, Christy, and I put together a pretty fun loop outside of Ashcroft that allowed us to get up high and catch some views, ski a bit, and all while keeping the terrain pretty mellow.
At the start of every new season we like to set some goals, and we'll lay out a checklist of outings and activities we hope to complete. The goals aren't always written down and we might not always get to every one, but we try. Highland Bowl days, backcountry days, ski mountaineering days, rando races, ice climbing, the family ski trip, of course lift-accessed days (100?)— they’re all part of...
