Quandary Peak Cristo Couloir – 4.14.05

Quandary Peak Cristo Couloir – 4.14.05

Apr 14, 2005

Route: Cristo Couloir Team: Ted, Sean Shean Spring is here. The lifts just closed and without any big, far away adventure planned, I was hoping to get a short list of 14ers skied before the snow melted. If it’s anything like last spring (14 peaks skied) then I’d be psyched. Let’s start out with a Quandary East Ridge/Cristo Couloir warm-up. Technically dull and with great road access it’s a classic...

Mount Sherman Ski Descent – 5.24.04

Mount Sherman Ski Descent – 5.24.04

May 24, 2004

I’ll have to move faster if I want to make the self-timer photo. Route: South Slopes Team: Ted (solo) Ahh, the mighty Mount Sherman. Quite a change from the Wilson group just a few days earlier. It was the perfect peak to wind down on after an aggressive May (ten peaks in fourteen days). Being unable to sell a day trip to anyone I knew, I went alone. From the...

Quandary Peak Ski Descent – 4.27.01

Quandary Peak Ski Descent – 4.27.01

Apr 27, 2001

The line down the south facing Cristo Couloir. I didn’t come home with any other photos from the day. Route: Cristo Couloir Team: Ted, Jared Ettlinger Late April— snow is everywhere but the lifts are closed. It doesn’t always make sense to me, for example, why Aspen Highlands’ maximum base depth is often reached on or near the mountains closing day. There’s still so much skiing to be had when...

Quandary Peak Ski Descent – 4.24.00

Quandary Peak Ski Descent – 4.24.00

Apr 24, 2000

Route: East Ridge Team: Ted, Christy Christy and I had just started hanging out and I figured why ease into it? Let’s cut to the chase. Let’s do something fun and see if she’s into it. Closing day on Aspen Mountain brought a big spring storm. We had already made plans to try to ski Quandary Peak the following day, and some new snow made it sound more interesting. We made...

Mount Bross Ski Descent – 5.13.99

Mount Bross Ski Descent – 5.13.99

May 13, 1999

Route: Moose Gulch Team: Ted (solo) Two weeks after Mt. Democrat and after a recovery from our horrendous sunburns, I decided a solo Bross attempt was in order. It was a pretty uneventful day. I drove near the trailhead we used for Mt. Lincoln two weeks earlier and started skinning up Moose Gulch. I managed to skin all the way to the summit plateau where the heavy winds that the...

Mount Democrat Ski Descent – 4.27.99

Mount Democrat Ski Descent – 4.27.99

Apr 27, 1999

Route: West Face Team: Ted, Jared Ettlinger Jared was the next friend I would cajole into skiing with me. We drove to Democrat, on the Fremont Pass side. It had been nice spring weather lately, that is until the night before, we figured four inches of new snow shouldn’t slow us down too much. Wrong. The new snow got deeper and deeper the higher we went. Opting for skins at...

Mount Lincoln Ski Descent – 4.20.99

Mount Lincoln Ski Descent – 4.20.99

Apr 20, 1999

Route: Cameron Amphitheater Team: Ted, Dwayne Stein It would be a month after my first day on Quandary that I would get a partner for another peak. Dwayne was a friend from work. He snowshoed with his snowboard on his back–  not be the most practical method but it gets the job done. We drove to the Roberts Road trailhead and headed up between Mount Lincoln and Bross, following some...

Quandary Peak Ski Descent – 3.23.99

Quandary Peak Ski Descent – 3.23.99

Mar 23, 1999

When it comes to skiing 14ers, it all started with Quandary Peak.

It was amazing to spend time with this icon recently. Her message of hope and the inspirational words she shared with the kids in the valley schools were something to admire, 🙏 topped off by the tales she shared over whiskey 🥃 around the fire 🔥 of her decades as a conservationist, scientist, and activist in Africa and worldwide. 🌍🌱🦧🔭

We need more of this in the world today. 🌈

Bravo to @aspenchristy and @acesaspen for bringing her message to the valley. 🙏

"Every single day you live, you make an impact on the planet, and you can choose what sort of impact you make."

An end of an era…. Papa passed peacefully in his An end of an era…. Papa passed peacefully in his sleep this week.
It’s been incredible to reflect on the profound impact he had on our lives. In his 99 + years, we were able to stay so close and share so many special experiences. We will miss his remarkable memory and stories of growing up in Nantucket, flying planes in WWII, living in Japan, finding his way to the mountains of Colorado and skiing until his 90s. Grateful for all the memories we were able to share. We will cherish them forever. 🧡
This week Dr. Jane Goodall came to our valley to s This week Dr. Jane Goodall came to our valley to share her message of hope with the @acesaspen community. It was incredible to see the affect of her stories on students from Glenwood Springs to Aspen. I’m not sure who was more inspired - the educators and adults she touched, or the youth that hung on to her every word.
I do know that this message of hope is needed right now and it was empowering to hear her advice of “just do something”. Be a part of the solution, understand your impact, and take action in your community to ensure a more sustainable future for our planet, people, and animals. #capacityforchange #awareness #environmentaleducation #collaboration #dosomething

This year, I'm honored to be running for the Chris Klug Foundation to help bring awareness to the 104,000 children and adults currently waiting for an organ transplant. I will give it my all out there to raise funds and raise awareness, and would love your help! 100% of all donations made will go towards my $3,500 goal for the Chris Klug Foundation (CKF), and any amount will make a difference.
