The Ruby Range Traverse is a ridge traverse from Yule Pass to Ruby Peak across the nine named summits of the Ruby Range above Kebler Pass near Crested Butte, Colorado.

Nolan’s 14 Recap

Sep 8, 2016

In 2016 I finished Nolan’s 14 in 55:37 following the route north from Mt Shavano to Mt Massive, a near 100 mile course that climbs 14 14ers along the way.

Looking for a moderate distance trail run that gets you up into the high alpine? Do you prefer loops to out-and-backs, so that you don’t have to travel along the same trail in both directions?

Brush Lakes and Electric Peak

Brush Lakes and Electric Peak

Jul 8, 2016

We’ve always insisted that some of the easiest peaks can present the biggest challenges. We had twice failed to reach the grassy summit of Electric Peak, 13,598 ft. in the Northern Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

Frenchman Creek to Harvard loop

Frenchman Creek to Harvard loop

Sep 18, 2014

Fall is in the air. Ted, on the route down the north side of Harvard. [Christy here again] After spending the last three weekends running through the incredible Maroon – Snowmass Wilderness, we thought we’d switch it up and explore a new area. Earlier this summer, we had done a fun loop run over Missouri and Belford Mountains. From the summit of Missouri, we had an amazing view of the...

North to South to North

Looking over to South Maroon Peak, 14,156 ft., from the summit of the North Maroon. The broken ridge goes from the lower right towards the center of the photo. The less technical ledge system is on the right side and below the ridge. The 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act was this past weekend. The local papers have been covering the “news” that more people than ever have been cramming...

Rinker Peak – 13,783 ft.

Jul 24, 2014

We wanted to go climb a mountain this past weekend, and we were unsure of where to go. We were looking for something that was tall, nearby, and was a summit we hadn’t yet climbed. It was actually kind of hard to find a mountain that fit that description.

Running Decalibron

Running Decalibron

Aug 23, 2013

Descending Mount Bross. Democrat, Cameron, Lincoln, and Bross– a.k.a. Decalibron, at least to those who obsess over 14ers here in Colorado. Peakbaggers love the easy Decalibron loop, allowing for four 14,000 foot summits to be tagged from the trailhead at Kite Lake, outside of Alma. (more…)

Rain Delay

Rain Delay

Aug 3, 2013

We tried to stay optimistic, but in the end the weather ruled the day. It’s that time of summer, when the “monsoonal flow” brings regular wet weather to the state. The forecast for last weekend looked less than ideal for any sort of outdoor adventure, but we had made plans to go on a backpacking mission, so we headed out anyway. It’s hard knowing not going, right? The goal was...
